Some of our much-loved annual traditions include a winter soup evening (held in June or July), where members share homemade soups, and a festive Christmas party, with shared food, gifts, and refreshments provided by the club. With over 50 years of history, our club has built a strong, welcoming community where members support each other every step of the way. If you’re looking to lose 7kg or more and would like encouragement in a relaxed and social environment, we’d love to welcome you. Burgher Welfare League of Western Australia Inc. (BWL)

Burgher Welfare League of Western Australia Inc. (BWL) The Burgher Welfare League of Western Australia Inc. (BWL) is a registered charity that has been supporting disadvantaged and vulnerable people in Sri Lanka for more than 35 years. Founded with a commitment to helping those in need, BWL has grown from a small group of dedicated members meeting in private homes to a thriving community organisation with more than 220 members. What began as informal gatherings and fundraising lunches has developed into a well-established organisation making a meaningful difference in the lives of many. Since April 2011, BWL has proudly called the Morley Noranda Recreation Club home, where members and guests gather each month for friendship, fellowship, and fundraising. Our monthly lunches regularly attract around 140 attendees, providing an opportunity to connect with others while supporting a worthy cause. Membership is open to anyone who would like to support our work, with an annual membership fee of just $15 per person. Supporting Those Most in Need A core focus of BWL's welfare work is providing ongoing support to elderly people experiencing hardship in Sri Lanka. Currently, the organisation funds pensions for 72 elderly beneficiaries, helping them meet the costs of daily living, healthcare, and essential medications. Recognising the economic challenges faced by many families in Sri Lanka, BWL regularly reviews and increases the assistance provided when needed. Additional support is often given at Christmas and during times of increased hardship. Our philosophy is simple: by supporting individuals directly, we can make a genuine and lasting difference in their lives. Many of the people we assist are elderly, vulnerable, and often overlooked. Through our partnership with the Dutch Burgher Union (DBU) of Sri Lanka, funds are distributed directly to recipients on a quarterly basis, ensuring support reaches those who need it most. Over the years, members visiting Sri Lanka have witnessed first hand the positive impact of this assistance. For many recipients, the support provided by BWL helps cover essential living expenses and access to vital medical care that would otherwise be beyond their reach. Making a Difference Together Through friendship, community spirit, and generosity, the Burgher Welfare League continues to make a meaningful contribution to the lives of some of Sri Lanka's most vulnerable people. We welcome new members and guests who would like to join us in supporting this important work while enjoying the friendship and community that have been at the heart of BWL for more than three decades.

Noranda Lions Club

Noranda Lions Club

A proud and active part of the local community — offering practical support, compassion, and real opportunities for those who need a helping hand. At the heart of Lions is a simple commitment: 100% of funds raised are returned directly to the community. This means every contribution goes toward making a tangible difference — locally and beyond. Our work supports a wide range of initiatives. Locally, this includes providing essential items such as wheelchairs, seating, clothing, bedding, and baby equipment, helping to ease the burden for individuals and families doing it tough. We also work closely with local nursing homes and community groups to respond where support is needed most. Noranda Lions is deeply connected to the next generation, partnering with 11 local schools to provide scholarships, funding, and ongoing support. This includes the breakfast program at Morley Senior High School, where around 70 students receive assistance each day. Beyond the local area, Lions proudly supports leading health and research organisations such as the Lions Eye Institute, Ear Science Institute Australia, and the Save Sight Institute at Murdoch Hospital. We also deliver practical community services through well-known initiatives like the Lions Hearing Bus, offering free hearing tests, and the Lions Cancer Screening Bus, which travels to regional and remote areas of Western Australia to provide free cancer checks. While many people know Lions for Christmas cakes and sausage sizzles, there is so much more happening behind the scenes. Noranda Lions Club is about community, connection, and stepping in where it counts. If you’re looking to give back, get involved, or simply learn more, we’d love to welcome you.
